Wolf
We often picture the wolf in a cold North American forest
silhouetted against a full moon howling to the sky. This image
is correct except that wolves are not really loners at all, but
howl to be friendly with other wolves. The wolves can hear each
other howling up to 6 miles away in a forest. Wolves mate for life
and both parents help raise the 4 to 6 pups born to them each year.
Their fur, feet, and stamina make them well adapted to their cold
predatory life. Social hunters, wolves travel in packs. They may
trek up to 45 miles a day, simply following their prey until it drops
from exhaustion. An adult wolf usually weighs between 75 to
110 pounds and is 4 to 7 feet long.
